After sell out screenings in Brisbane and Toowoomba, Bimblebox will now be showing in Nambour.
Tickets will be $10 (Concession); $15 (Regular); $20 (Supporter).
Synopsis:
The documentary, “Bimblebox”, explores the huge Australian coal export industry from the grassroots up. The people at Bimblebox Nature Refuge had the feeling that the harsh reality of the nation’s mining boom was happening behind the backs of most Australians. For them, the experience of intrusive coal exploration is all too real: their nature refuge lies in the path of the world’s largest coal mines.
They decided that the best way to resist the “China First” project that threatens their refuge would be to show Aussies what is happening in our backyard. In 2010 the Bimblebox team heard about an independent filmmaker in the USA and his renowned documentary, Mountaintop Removal. Mike O’Connell’s film was telling the world about resistance to coal mining in Appalachia, West Virginia.
Mike's new film, Bimblebox, is named for the latest flashpoint in the conflict between coal and ecology in Australia. The story however is bigger that Bimblebox; it’s for anyone who cares about Australia, their health and the health of others, the environment, climate change, and the power of the coal industry. The fate of Bimblebox Nature Refuge is shown in the context of community responses to the massive expansion of coal and coal seam gas mining across the eastern states of Australia. The film features many prominent members of the debate against coal expansion in Australia including Guy Pearse (Global Change Institute), Ove Hoegh-Guldberg (University of Queensland) and Matthew Wright (Beyond Zero Emissions).
Venue: Nambour Civic Centre, Currie Street, Nambour.

The Community Nature Conservation Program within the Noosa Biosphere is coordinated by Noosa & District Landcare and supported by Sunshine Coast Council. The aim of the program is to build the capacity of the local community to maintain and care for our bushland reserves.
Some of the reserves are home to wildlife of conservation significance including Glossy Black cockatoos at Dame Patti Park and koalas at Weyba Park, while others provide vital ecological connectivity for native flora and fauna across the shire. Currently there are 13 groups with approximately 80 active volunteers and more new groups soon.
Working bees are held on a regular basis and enable volunteers to learn about native bush regeneration and weed control techniques, as well as native plant and animal identification. Gloves, tools and morning tea are provided.
To join your local bushland care group or for further information, please contact Gemma Wright, Noosa & District Landcare on 5485 2155 or email: bushcare@noosalandcare.org.
